Minimalism - Book review

Minimalism: the path to a an organized, stress-free decluttered life - book summary

This book has changed my whole idea about minimalism and concepts revolving around it. I always thought of minimalism to be something related to being very plain and dull all the time. However after reading this book, I've realised minimalism is not how you dress up or appear to be but about how happy and content you can be with less around you. This book tells you about the modern minimalist movement - which is is to be truly happy and appreciate what you have , rather than define your happiness through comparison with others. The book tells you how investing in experiences rather than tangible things can take you miles and keep you happy and stress free in life. It also throws some light on the practice of detachment and allowing oneself to disconnect from materialistic happiness and prosperity. One of the major learning from this book is that the key aspect of minimalism is to get rid of excess inorder to create more space for what truly matters. There are different ways given in the book through which an individual can declutter and organise his/her life by just applying some rules of minimalism. The best part about this book is that after every chapter ends, there's a compilation of all the key highlights of the respective chapter which makes it easier to have a better understanding of the ideas discussed in the book. It deals with some important and major parts of our journeys in life like setting up a home, maintaining a healthy relationship, having a clean and organized work space , saving money ,staying in shape ,etc. The book also has a small chapter which is also my favourite one, towards the end which is about "minimalist gifting". The chapter says that the main goal of gifting something to a loved one or a friend should be to gift that person an experience to go out and live rather than gifting something that would take up some space in the house and stay in the house. This book has made me understand that minimalism is a journey and not a habit or activity and it takes time but works magically when done with clarity and consistency.
